"Sure," Naomi shrugged indifferently. As they wandered along to the cafe, Naomi examined the CD cover. Good. It had some of her mum's favourite songs on it. She was going to be please. Keeping her mind off her mum, Naomi walked into Cafe Nero. It was a large, upmarket place, with polished, dark wood tables, and big, soft armchairs near them.

As they walked into the restaurant, Scott was immediately aware that the meal would cost him quite a bit of money. Cafe Nero wasn't exactly fancy, but it was definitely a bit more than casual, and just the feel of the place was enough to tell him he was going to be relying on the use of his marvelous credit card.
It was times like these that Scott was glad he came from a rich family. If he didn't have the money, well, he'd have been, quite frankly, screwed. There was no way he'd ask Naomi for her money, and there was no way he'd even politely suggest a different place to eat now. Yes, being rich was wonderful.
He grinned at Naomi as a well-dressed hostess walked up to them, taking menus from the rack and leading them to an empty table. Shortly after they were seated, a waiter walked up to their table and asked for their drink orders. "I'll take.. A sweet tea, I guess," Scott answered, skimming over the 'beverages' section of the menu.

Naomi glanced at the menu. "Umm... I'll have a mocha, thanks," she smiled sweetly at the waitress. Naomi had a sort of code - always be polite to people who worked in shops, cafe's, anything like that. Everyone else got the cold shoulder, unless they had attempted to befriend her, as Scott had. I say attempted because, although she will be friendly, she won't really talk much, and she doesn't exactly open up to people.

Placing the menu on the table, Scott flashed a small smile at Naomi. "So, what're you majoring in?" he asked, leaning back in his seat, hands on the table. He messed with the menu a little bit, moving it from hand to hand.

"Oh, er... Semetic language." Naomi replied vaguely. "What about you?" When their drinks reached them, she took a quick drink, ignoring the burning and the overly bitter taste of the coffee. Reaching up with one hand, she carefully tucked a strand of hair back behind her ear and rested her chin in her hands.

"Cool, cool..." Scott took a sip of his drink as well, fingering the cool glass as he placed it back on the table top. He then leaned back again, flipping his hair out of his eyes. "I'm taking civil engineering." He glanced over the menu one more time, deciding on what he would eat. "What language are you studying?" he asked, slowly lowering the menu.

"Arabic," Naomi said, playing with the folded paper napkin near her place. Folding down one of the corners, she began to fold out the shape of a swan. Before she'd come to Wescott, Naomi had been very keen on origami. Son, it was finished, and she set it on the table then looked at Scott. "What's civil engineering like as a subject?" She asked, this time out of genuine curiosity.

Hmm, Arabic. Sounded interesting, despite the fact that Scott had absolutely no idea what the Arabic language was. He watched Naomi fold her napkin into the shape of a swan, making different creases and folds into the paper until it was manipulated to the shape she wanted. Wow. That had to take some practice, especially with how easily and second-naturedly she was able to fold it. Scott's eyes slid back to look at Naomi as she asked him about civil engineering. "Well, I have to take math again, and physics. Plus design and project management. But I still have to decide what type of civil engineering I want to do. It's sort of like... Being a lawyer, I guess, because there are different things you choose from." He shrugged, taking another sip of his tea.

"Hmm." Naomi nodded, although her eyes were still staring at nothing. She was in a weird mood today. Reaching out like a zombie, she took a long gulp of her mocha, then put the cup back down, shaking her black hair out of her face as she did so. As she set the mug down, her hand slithered out of the handle and landed on the table, where it lay limply. Naomi looked at it with disintrest, as though it didn't belong to her.

For a moment, Scott watched Naomi's changes in silence. When her hand lay limp on the table, his mind began to race with ideas of what to say -- or if to say anything. Maybe he should just stay silent. No; that might be awkward. Finally, he took a deep breath and cocked his head around to look at Naomi. "Are you okay?" he asked, his hand absentmindedly reaching out for her's in a comforting manner. Halfway there, he realized it, and his hand immediately dropped to the table, landing with a quiet thud.
